World Meteorological Day Conference

The 2018 World Meteorological Day will be celebrated with a conference in Tallinn, Estonia on the 23rd of March. The event is being organized by the Estonian Environment Agency.

Since 1961, World Meteorological Day has commemorated the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization on March 23rd, 1950, and the essential contributions that National Meteorological and Hydrological Services make to the safety and well-being of society.

Since 1994, during these worldwide celebrations, Estonia`s weather service has been holding a conference focusing on weather and climate issues.

This year, we are focusing on the topic of weather warnings. We are talking about how to alert people in case of dangerous weather. How people and their property, traffic and day-to-day operations are affected by weather. What kind of information should they pay attention to and what kind of information channel to trust?

We are happy to welcome EUMETNET Director General Eric Petermann among our speakers, talking about European cooperation on communication of weather information, strengthening of the role of National Weather Service. Also among the speakers for that day are professionals from Estonian Environment Agency (National Weather Service) and our partners and clients from Estonian Rescue Board, Estonian Road Administration, Tartu University, Seesam Insurance, Estonian Public Broadcasting.

The day will end with foundation of Estonian Meteorological Society. The activity of the Society is aimed to promote development of meteorology and related sciences as well as meteorological education and culture in Estonia.
